O’Keefe : Immersive Exhibit @ NCMA (2019)
Derek Alan Rowe
I’ve always loved learning but never really liked school.
In 2004 I was called to quit my day job to start working with a television station as a production assistant. I quickly became one of the main editors and content producers and in 2005 produced and directed an award-winning show called “With All Due Respect.”
In 2008, I started a cooperative creative business, Doctrine Creative with my brother. Through Doctrine, I’ve directed and edited hundreds of creative projects: commercials, music videos and short films, including a feature-length urban comedy called Out On Parole, a coming-of-age film called Gutter King and two feature-length documentaries, Within Reach and One Simple Question.
At the 2011 Telly Awards, Doctrine Creative won Best Animated Commercial for a piece called “Lessons from a Tree” which premiered at a TED conference and featured Jeremy Irons as the voice of the tree.
Nature is our oldest storyteller. Ask any sailor and they will tell you, if you listen, the ocean will always tell you a story, and in 2012 it told me that: “If I’m not free to explore what I don’t understand, then I’ll always be afraid.” For the last 5 years I have been driven by this story to seek out the answers to my deepest questions and share them with the world! Armed with a camera and a question, I am dedicated to producing media that inspires the world.
